Lobby group GetUp!, in a now-deleted post, blame a shooting club for John Edwards’ terrible Sydney double-child-murder (image below). Unfortunately, it’s all fake news. Edwards’ application for a firearms license was rejected because he was unfit and unsuitable under existing law. Then NSW Police Commissioner gave him a special exemption – despite the objections of shooting clubs (click here).
Law-abiding shooters are sick of being blamed for the crimes of people who are already properly excluded by legislation. We want the registries to do their job and keep people like John Edwards out instead of giving them exemptions they are not entitled to.
