Police have lost amnesty firearms before

We pointed out earlier in the week that Police have lost amnesty firearms before.  One such lost/sold firearm was reportedly used in the Port Arthur massacre.  We wrote to Queensland Police and asked what’s different this time?  What’s in place to stop the well documented leaks of seized and surrendered firearms?

Fear not, we have procedures!

And the Firearms Amnesty Project (FAP) team Inspector replied:

To address your concerns I wish to advise the Queensland Police Service have appropriate procedures and safeguards in place regarding the management of all items coming into the possession of police and therefore, the community can have full confidence that any items surrendered will be actioned accordingly.

Full stop.  That was everything they had to say on the subject.  It certainly fills us with confidence.
